Man And Van Warning!!!!
Spend 5 mins reading this and you could save yourself money and heartache.

In every industry there are cowboys. The removals industry is no exception we call them "A MAN AND A VAN". They offer a cheap hourly rate or half hourly rate because they don't have any of the following:

1. No 7.5 tonne trucks. 7.5t and above removal lorries require an operators licence to operate and run. You have to be registered and have an official operating base to operate a removal company from. Regular checks are also made on the safety of your vehicles. You don't need to be registered to own a Luton van or smaller. Although a van and man company will tell you they can do your move in more than one trip, if your keys are not available as soon as they load the first load where are they going to take the furniture to? You will have to pay them to wait for the keys and then start work again.

2. No P.A.Y.E. staff. This means they would then pay TAX & NATIONAL INSURANCE. Instead if staff are required they can be dragged off the street or out of pubs. Just ask your self "Do you know who's going to be moving you or your family?" if the company involved doesn't have any permanent staff.

3. No VAT. Because they are not registered anywhere they don't pay any tax. This might sound like a saving to you as no one likes to pay tax, but with no registered address how do you find them if it all goes wrong.

4. No land line telephone number. We all use mobile phones, 0800 and 0845 numbers but ask a genuine company and they will happily supply you with a fixed land line number. A lot of companies advertising on the internet lately have just a 0800 number which can be easily directed to a pay as you go mobile phone. Again no registered trading address, why because you can never find them when something goes wrong.

5. No INSURANCE. You need insurance to protect yourself and your goods whilst in transit. A cheap hourly rate MAN AND A VAN would not have insurance (how can he he is cheap!!). If something valuable goes missing or your TV gets damaged you need to know you are covered. What if the van driver knocks down your neighbours wall or fence during your move you need to know you are covered if not it's could to cost you a lot of money instead of saving you money

Imagine this, you phone A MAN AND A VAN and he gives you a cheap hourly or half hourly rate, you think great that's cheaper than I thought it was going to be I will book him. Then on your move day he doesn't turn up and you can't contact him. Or he does turn up in a dodgy looking van with a mate, he doesn't have any of the correct materials to move you, no furniture blankets, no sofa or mattress covers or webbing to secure your goods in the van. You then become worried and start to think that it was not such a good idea to book this guy. He then tells you that he cannot get all your goods on his van and has to do more than one trip and then blames you for having too much stuff which then means that your cheap hourly rate suddenly is not cheap anymore. Then he drives off with your goods and all you have is a mobile phone number.

Booking A MAN AND A VAN may seem cheap at the time, even the internet MAN AND A VAN company will always cost you more because they are simply A MAN AND A VAN company and not a professional removal company. Even if you are moving one or two items get a quote from a professional removal company you will be surprised at the prices we offer for the smallest of moves.

Still not sure have look at this posting on gumtree.com

The removals firm that loaded up the furniture... and disappeared

Protect yourself. A few simple steps to protect yourself from the dodgy van and man companies. Ask for a landline number and call them to make sure it is a genuine number. Ask for references they should be happy to supply these. Ask how many permanent staff they employ. Remember paying an hourly is great if you can work out how long its going to take, we can all walk slowly and drag our heels. Some van and man companies also charge per load whichs sounds great until they turn up in the smallest van available.

Remember be careful, when you are moving home THERE ARE NO SHORT CUTS TO ANY PLACE WORTH GOING.

We move everyday so you can trust us to help you move.
